Medicare Advantage Plans Explained — and Matched to Your Actual Needs

We do not recommend a Medicare Advantage plan until we know which doctors you see, which medications you take, and which carriers operate in your ZIP code. That is what a real consultation looks like.

What Medicare Advantage Is — and What It Is Not

Medicare Advantage (Part C) is an alternative way to receive your Medicare benefits. Instead of Original Medicare paying your claims directly, you enroll in a private insurance plan that is approved by Medicare and covers everything Part A and Part B cover — often with added benefits like dental, vision, hearing, and prescription drug coverage bundled in.

What Medicare Advantage is not: a one-size-fits-all product. Plans vary significantly by county, network type, premium, out-of-pocket maximum, and drug formulary. A plan that works well for your neighbor may not include your cardiologist, cover your maintenance medications at a reasonable tier, or even be available in your ZIP code.

That distinction matters more than most people realize when they are choosing a plan.

How We Help You Compare Medicare Advantage Plans

Before we suggest a single plan, we work through three things with you.

Step 1: Prescription Drug Review

We run your current medications against the formularies of available plans in your area to identify which plans cover your drugs, at which tier, and at what cost. A plan with a zero-dollar premium can still cost you significantly more out of pocket if your medications land on a high tier.

Step 2: Doctor and Network Verification

We confirm that your current providers — primary care, specialists, and any facilities you rely on — are in-network under the plans we are considering. HMO plans require in-network care for most services. PPO plans offer more flexibility but at a higher cost-share when you go out of network.

Step 3: Plan-to-Plan Cost Comparison

We compare total estimated annual costs across plans — not just premiums. Deductibles, copays, out-of-pocket maximums, and drug costs all factor into the picture. The right plan is the one that costs you the least over the course of a year given your actual health situation.

A Note on What We Can and Cannot Offer

We are an independent brokerage, which means we work with multiple carriers rather than representing any single company. That independence is central to how we work.

That said, we do not have access to every Medicare Advantage plan in every market. For example, we do not sell Devoted Health plans in Georgia. Some Humana Medicare Advantage and prescription drug plans are non-commissionable and do not appear in our quoting tools — those plans would need to be accessed directly through Humana's website.

We will always tell you when a plan we cannot quote may be worth your attention. Our job is to help you find the right coverage, not to limit your options to what is convenient for us.

Medicare Advantage Plans Available in Florida and Georgia

We are licensed in both Florida and Georgia and carry strong carrier relationships in each state. Plans available through our office include options from UnitedHealthcare, Humana, Wellcare, Centene, and other A-rated carriers active in your county.

Plan availability is ZIP-code specific. The carriers and plan types we can offer you depend on where you live. When you contact us, we pull the full picture for your area and walk you through what is actually available — not a generic overview.

  • HMO plans: lower premiums, in-network care required, referrals often needed
  • PPO plans: more provider flexibility, higher cost-share for out-of-network care
  • PFFS plans: available in select areas; providers must agree to plan terms
  • SNP plans: designed for individuals with specific chronic conditions or dual Medicare/Medicaid eligibility
  • Plans with $0 premium: available in many counties; total cost depends on drug and service utilization

Not Sure Whether Medicare Advantage or Original Medicare Is Right for You?

That is one of the most common questions we work through with clients approaching Medicare eligibility. Medicare Advantage is not the right fit for everyone. For some people — particularly those with significant specialist needs, complex prescriptions, or travel patterns that take them out of network regularly — a Medicare Supplement plan paired with Original Medicare may serve them better.

We cover both options. If you are weighing Medicare Advantage against a Medigap plan, we can compare both paths side by side so you can make a decision based on your actual situation rather than a carrier's marketing materials.

Frequently asked questions

Speak With Someone Who Will Actually Call You Back

  • What is the difference between Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement insurance?

Medicare Advantage replaces Original Medicare with a private plan that bundles your coverage, often including drug benefits and extras like dental and vision. Medicare Supplement (Medigap) works alongside Original Medicare to cover costs like copays, coinsurance, and deductibles that Original Medicare does not pay. The two approaches have different cost structures, network implications, and flexibility trade-offs — we cover both in every Medicare consultation so you can make an informed choice.
  • Can I keep my current doctors if I switch to a Medicare Advantage plan?

It depends on the plan and the network. Not all Medicare Advantage plans include the same providers, and network participation can change from year to year. Before recommending any plan, we verify that your preferred physicians and specialists are in-network — this is a standard step in every consultation, not an add-on.
  • Are $0 premium Medicare Advantage plans really free?

The monthly premium may be $0, but the plan is not free. Medicare Advantage plans have out-of-pocket maximums, copays for doctor visits and specialist care, cost-sharing for hospital stays, and prior authorization requirements that can affect how and when you access certain services. We review all of these figures with you before any plan is recommended.
  • When can I enroll in or switch Medicare Advantage plans?

The main window is the Annual Enrollment Period, which runs October 15 through December 7 each year, with changes effective January 1. If you are already in a Medicare Advantage plan, you can also make one change during the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period, January 1 through March 31. Certain life events — such as moving counties or losing other coverage — may trigger a Special Enrollment Period that allows a mid-year change.
  • Can I switch from Medicare Advantage back to a Medigap plan?

Yes, but the timing and process matter. Outside of specific guaranteed issue windows — such as your first 12 months in a Medicare Advantage plan — switching back to a Medigap plan typically requires medical underwriting in most states, meaning a carrier can decline your application based on health history. If you are considering this move, we strongly recommend discussing it with us before making any changes so we can identify the best window and approach for your situation.
  • Do you help with Medicare Advantage plans in both Florida and Georgia?

Yes. We are licensed in both states and work with multiple carriers in each market, including UnitedHealthcare, Humana, Centene, Wellcare, and Cigna. Because Medicare Advantage plan availability, networks, and pricing vary by county and zip code, having a broker who knows both markets — and can compare across carriers in your specific area — makes a meaningful difference in the quality of the recommendation you receive.
